Recap: London Design Festival La Sardina Workshop1 6 Share Tweet
As part of the London Design Festival we hosted two very special La Sardina workshops at The Standard Hotel in Kings Cross, using some rolls of LomoChrome Metropolis 35 mm film. We set our participants the challenge of looking around at the design and architecture of the area, from the brutalist British Library building shaped like a ship to the classic and opulent Victorian façade of the Midland Grand Hotel and St Pancras Station. We utilised the urban look of the LomoChrome Metropolis film and encouraged lots of double exposures and experimental shooting. We talked to some of the participants about the workshop and they shared their results with us.
"My friend invited me to it as she had a spare ticket. Not exactly sure how she found it, but I was told it was in conjunction with London Design Festival. The shots I took didn't consist of strong colours so are muted and in the few shots that did happen to have colour, popped. I personally like deep contrast and muted colours as I like shooting b&w.
I've been shooting analogue photography since 2006 and two of my first cameras were the Diana F+ and the Fisheye, so it felt really nostalgic to shoot using a Lomography camera again. I felt really carefree shooting, something that I haven't felt in a while. Some of my shots were shot from the hip, so it's inspired me to be more spontaneous and fun with it." - Marlon Marqueses
"We found out about the workshop through the London Design Festival, but are also locals to the area and regularly check The Standard's events. We absolutely loved the workshop and finding out more about the La Sardinia camera. It took us no time at all to get into the creative buzz the analogue camera offers and the Metropolis film is very exciting to work with as you picture the colour combinations as you create a potential photo in mind with the reds and muted tones..." - Tayra Pinto and Iury London
"...As two architects we always take in the build environment on any walk through London, but this was a great few hours to see the wonderful King's Coss area through a new lens and to get creative through the multiple exposures and all the red palettes the area has to offer. Would highly recommend and thank you Hannah for the friendly and very informative session!" - Tayra Pinto and Iury London
"I'd recently picked up film again and seeing this event pop up on the LDF website, it sounded like the perfect mix with my interest of Architecture and form too. Having never played with double-exposure before, I was happy with my first attempt and loved the surprise of seeing how it came out. The best part about the Lomowalk was not feeling precious over my film, being able to try out a new camera and taking the time to really look all around – A lot of fun." - Dana Ali
