Piers and Pavilions with Rob Orchard and the 2021 LomoChrome Turquoise ISO 100–400 Film
10 Share TweetSince the recent batch of LomoChrome Turquoise film started shipping we have seen an influx of stunning photos from around the globe using this unique color shifting emulsion. We were so impressed with Rob Orchard's recent shots taken around the seaside town of Brighton that we asked him to share them with us and talk a bit about why he chose to try out this film.
Hi Rob, please tell us about yourself?
I'm an amateur photographer based in Brighton. Living in a vibrant city by the sea means that there's always something interesting to shoot.
How did you get into shooting with film?
I'm old enough to have been shooting since before digital cameras became widespread, but I really got into shooting film in the late 00s, when you could get a compact camera on Ebay for a less than a fiver and pick up Kodak Colorplus in the Pound Shop.

What made you decide to try out the LomoChrome Turquoise film?
I'm always up for trying new things. Over lockdown I taught myself to develop film in Instant coffee when the labs were closed, and I accidentally souped some film when the seals on my waterproof Canon Sureshot A1 proved not to be waterproof. An interesting new C41 film was right up my street.
What did you choose to shoot, and how did the photos turn out?
For the first roll with any new piece of kit I always go and shoot the local landmarks - the piers, the pavilion, the i360 - they've all been shot hundreds of times before but a new setup gives you the opportunity to make the familiar seem fresh. When I got the scans back I was wowed by the results.
Any tips for someone wanting to try this film out?
If anything, with my photos it's less the turquoise than the orange that makes them stand out. I'd seen a few shots on the Lomography website where blue skies had shifted to vibrant orange, so I made sure I went out on a sunny cloudless day. I can't wait until we get some more days like that so I can shoot another roll.
